It is a real company. There are some negative opinions about their support speed and such — take a look at various other discussions turned up by a Google search. However, they’re not a completely imaginary company, so not a scam.
As long as you verify that the payment is coming from somebody@alertpay.com and not alertpay@yahoo.com, you should be fine.
